Leaving Empowered
Today's DFI started with looking at Empowerment. This is all around having choice. Having empowerment means the freedom to choose. Technology has allowed there to be new and readily available choices for both educators and learners. And this is why the DFI course has allowed me to feel empowered (through having a toolkit of new digital learning) that I can now share confidently with my learners and in turn, empower them.
Another concept that has always resonated with me is that we want our learners to create content and not just be passive consumers of technology. DFI has given me many tools to share with my learners and enable them to get the most out of the tools that we have at hand.
In the past, when I heard the phrase Computational Thinking I would automatically think, 'that's too hard for me....I don't know how to do that....so I won't be able to teach that,' however, after todays DFI course I feel so much more confident and actually, that confidence has grown throughout the entire length of this course. It is about learning the steps to achieve an outcome and it is about instructions.
A digital tool that I learnt today was Twinery and I thoroughly enjoyed creating on this digital tool. I love how marries both writing and computational thinking - and many other curriculum areas. We created our own - pick your own adventure - stories and I used the well known Goldilocks. There was lots of computational thinking involved as a worked out how to link the paths back and forwards. I can definitely see me taking this back to my learning hub and empowering my learners to create and engage with this fun and interactive learning tool - I can't wait!
