Walking in my Student's Shoes

Cold feet...jumbled thoughts...drawing blanks...wording things correctly...not wanting my writing style to be judged!

Gosh, how much do we expect of our students? Our students who frequently blog, share their personal work, their thoughts and opinions willingly with others. Who comment on their peers blogs...aren't they amazing!

Confession time...it has been sometime since I have blogged. And since this time, 2018 to be precise, I am now working with older students who are expected to blog their work twice a week. I feel that this DFI Course has come at a very fitting time in my professional career. I have taught in a school that believes in the Learn Create Share pedagogy for a number of years so it is great to finally "walk in my student's shoes" and blog my learning from Day 1.

Before today, I had no idea of the many functions and capabilities of the humble Google Doc. Below is my (work-in-progress) LCS planning for one of my reading groups. Learning how to lay things out evenly using tables was a great trick to learn. I am also excited to use the 'Explore' tool during reading groups with my learners. Being able to quickly access definitions and images will be a very valuable tool for me to use.

I can definitely see the value of blogging for my students. Having been forced to reflect on my learning from today, this has helped to solidify my new knowledge and learning and I look forward to bringing a new found enthusiasm and purpose for blogging into my learning hub.

To my students, well done! Blogging and reflecting on your learning 2 or more times a week is a valuable learning resource and I commend you for your efforts.

  1. Kia ora Anna,
Thank you for sharing on your blog - you are right aren't our students who are regular bloggers just fantastic! I really believe that when you start blogging (or return to it after a break) it can feel quite daunting putting your self out there. But like with so many things, the more we practice the more comfortable we feel.
Looking forward to connecting again tomorrow.

What a great reflection. I like your Google Doc Reading plan. I too am amazed how much you can do in Google Docs. I am enjoying sharing our experiences at our table in the hall at St Francis. Keep up the entertaining blogging.
