Yesterday was Rose Tinted...Today....?

So many thoughts are in my head right now. Yesterday I posted about the positive change that I could see already in the children. And yes, I can still see the positive changes that have been made since Week 1 - but tonight I am feeling fed up!

I am tired of the constant lack of respect that the children show towards each other, their learning environment and towards their teachers. (Three different children today openly put down their peers in front of the class - I'm not sure if they were allowed to get away with it last year, but not anymore.) I am saddened at the self-entitlement of some of the 5 and 6 year olds in our class who are so quick to answer back without batting an eyelid. And at the moment, I feel no matter what I say, no matter how much praise and positive reinforcement I make, there are still a handful of children who just don't seem to care that their poor choices are having a negative impact on the class.

So, as of tomorrow, I will be introducing a seating chart to use during mat time. This way, I hope to eliminate the disruptions, interruptions and negative behaviour. I know it's not going to be an overnight fix, but it's a step towards change.

I don't like being negative. There are so many lovely children in the class who show respect and demonstrate self control. I want them to be in an environment where their learning is not hampered by a handful of children who continue to do as they please.

Let's see if this seating chart will work!

  1. You might be pleased to know that the seating chart is working for relievers as well. I observed Lynn using it last week after your students ensured she knew about it!!
