Powerful Commenting
Having recently joined the world of blogging, I have started to read many of my colleagues blogs and as a result, I have started to comment on them too. So, our PD for Manaiakalani Outreach today couldn't have come at a better time. I read an article about commenting on blogs and how to make that comment authentic, purposeful and powerful.
The three steps to writing a good comment is to...
1. Say something Positive - write something positive about their post.
2. Make it thoughtful - write something that demonstrates that you actually read their blog.
3. End with something helpful - end your comment with a helpful suggestion or ask something that might get them thinking or reflecting on their work.
This model of feedback/commenting could also be used as a powerful tool when giving feedback in class. It would definley make feedback specific and children would be able to one - understand what they have done well and two - be given something to reflect on and extend their learning.

Great to see you enjoying blogging. There are so many positive aspects to blogging. This is a great platform to make connections with fellow educators by sharing our thoughts and ideas. I too feel feedback is important as blogging is pointless with out people reading and commenting on them.. For kids this would be great as they have guidelines on what makes quality feedback.
